Dr David Freedman
David Freedman was born in 1944 and was brought up around the world of illustration and painting by his prolific Melbourne based artist father, Harold.
Harold convinced David not to pursue art as a career as it is not stable, so David went on to pursue a career in medicine as a surgeon. Nevertheless, he felt a passionate calling for art and went on to teach himself amidst the stress of his everyday life. “Painting is a release to me, as it takes me away from the pressures of being a country surgeon” he states.
Freedman is a field painter, in that he paints on location, rarely from photos. In that, he captures the very essence of nature and all her colours. He has painted landscapes all over the world, in oil and in watercolour. One can find several of his paintings at A Country Practice on McRae St in Swan Hill.
David Freedman is influenced by Camille Corot and the Heidelburg School.
